Follicle Puncture Needle Sizes
Ovum pick-up is a key step in IVF. After stimulation, eggs mature within 36 hours of the trigger shot, and the doctor retrieves eggs before release — the only tool is the follicle puncture needle.
Patients mostly use abdominal or vaginal retrieval techniques, both via the puncture needle. The needle length is about 35cm, entering the ovary via the vagina or abdomen under ultrasound guidance.
Six common sizes are available on the market: 16G, 17G, 18G, 19G, 20G and 21G, with 18G and 19G the most common. Different specs suit different patients.
